Producing a PostScript file
If you use a word processor that does not directly produce PostScript files
(e.g. MS Word), do as follows:
- MacOS 9 users:
- Select "LaserWriter 8" or "AdobePS" in the Chooser. It
does not matter whether a real laser printer is connected to the computer.
- From the word processor, select this printer and print to a file (this is
an option in the pop-up window for printing). Read
instructions below regarding the setting up of PostScript options.
- Windows users:
- Install a Postscript printer driver for a Postscript printer such as HP
LaserJet 5/5M Postscript (from the "Settings" menu choose "Printers"
and then "Add Printer"). MS Windows has drivers available for many
Postscript printers, so you do not need to obtain a specific driver from a
vendor.
- From the word processor, select this printer and print to a file (this is
an option in the pop-up window for printing). Read
instructions below regarding the setting up of PostScript options.
- Linux users:
- If you use LaTeX, produce the "dvi" file as usual, then convert
it to PostScript with the "dvips" command.
- Other word processors may be associated to various filters. (Follow this link to find
resources...)
Setting up PostScript options
At the time a pop-up dialog is visible before creating the PostScript file,
a few parameters may be set. Notably:
- Font inclusion: all (very important)
- Level 1, 2, 3 compatible
- Format: PostScript job (not EPS).
